What's Happening in Room 34...

Things To Know...

  • The BOGO Scholastic Book Fair is this week at Crestwood!  The students will be previewing on Monday and will have opportunities throughout the week to purchase books!  It's a GREAT opportunity to stock up on some great reads for the summer!
  • We are taking a walking field trip to the Sappington House on Friday.  The historic house is right across the street from school. The students will learn about the history of Thomas Sappington.  "He" will also make a visit to our classroom on Wednesday to preview our visit!
  • We will participate in Global Day of Design tomorrow!  The students will be using what they have learned about specialized structures to design and create an animal to live in a given creative environment.
  • The students will be bringing home their math books this week and next.  They are GREAT resources for the summer.   The books are FULL of work pages and lessons.  I highly encourage you to browse through them and make good use of them.
    • The students can share what they did over the weekend with their peers on our new Padlet! Your child can access it by going to padlet.com/kbranding1/weekend . The students are familiar with Padlet because we use it in the classroom regularly, so they should have no problem sharing a picture or just a few words.  I look forward to sharing it during our class meeting tomorrow.

    Keep up your hard work!

    Reader's Workshop:
    • We will continue reading the I Survived the Revolutionary War as a class read aloud as we learn many key events of the war.  The students will practice summarizing, in a few sentences, each chapter.  We will also be participating in a Virtual Field Trip through Scholastic!
    • The students chose their book for our last book club, and we will begin reading on Monday.  The groups will decide on their reading pages and each student will choose their writing task from a menu for each reading assignment to complete. The writing tasks will help hold them accountable for completing their reading and also help lead their book club discussions.
      Writer's Workshop:
      • We will finish up our poetry writing this week and begin publishing near the end of the week.
          Math:
          • We reviewed telling time on an analog clock this past week. I encouraged the students to practice telling time on an analog clock to become more confident.
          • The students will begin our year-end project.  They will be designing a taco truck!  After learning about food trucks, the students will be responsible for creating a name and logo for their taco truck.  From there, the students will decide on their menu and a "specialty taco".  Then the students will design and create a three-dimensional truck.  We will be inviting you in to see these fabulous designs!
          Science:
          • We hope the weather cooperates this week so we can get outside to begin our Nature Unleashed observations as we study 3 of Missouri's ecosystems, the forest, the prairie and the pond.
          • We will be going on a field trip to the Claire Gempp Conservation Area on May 15th.  Please sign and return the permission slip.
