What's Happening in Room 34...

Things You Should Know...

  • The students are putting forth a lot of effort while MAP testing! They are using the online tools to help them be successful.  I saw students highlight keywords, use the line guide while reading, eliminate answers, going back into the text to find answers and taking breaks from testing when needed. They completed the ELA (English Language Arts) section last week and will begin Math testing on Monday.
  • We are going on our field trip to Gempp Conservation Area on Friday! The students will need to bring a sack lunch and dress appropriately for spending the day outside. It will be a fun day as they explore three Missouri ecosystems; a pond, a prairie and a forest.
  • During the next several weeks, we will be spending a lot of time outside during independent reading and science.  Please have your child bring in an old beach towel or bath towel, so he/she has something to sit on during these times.
  • The students have until May 14th to complete their 4th-grade ALEKS pie to participate in our class pizza lunch!

John and Ty are creating a ray.  A ray has an endpoint and the other end goes on forever.
Jakiyah and Jacob are also creating a ray.
Max and Alex are creating a line.  Each end goes on forever.
Britton and Jackson are creating parallel lines.  They will never intersect.

The students LOVE receiving them!  I often see the notes in their desks, on their clipboards or just sitting on their desks well after MAP testing.  This just shows what a quick note can mean to a child.  This is a surprise for the students, so please keep it a secret and return your notes in the envelope provided.
                                • The 4th-grade students will have their Growth and Development lesson on Thursday.  The 4th-grade boys and girls' separate lessons will be taught by Nurse Eva.  This is a great opportunity to keep the conversation going at home and be opened and prepared to answer any questions your child may have.
                                • We have been discussing what it means to be mindful.  This past week, the students have been introduced to a great website, smilingminds.com.  They have been practicing the breathing and relaxation activities from the website.  If you are interested in trying the activities at home, check out the website!
