What's Happening in Room 34...

Things You Should Know...

  • We will have our next Writing Celebration on Wednesday, December 19th at 9:15.  We will combine this with the students' Idea Builder invention.  Mark your calendars to come in and enjoy some wonderful essays and see what GREAT inventions the students came up with!  You don't want to miss it!
  • The students are doing well with mastering their multiplication facts!  Their goal is to complete their multiplication Quicktables (part of the ALEKS program) or pass the final multiplication test by Christmas Break!  Overall, they are making great progress! 
Our 12 Days 'til Christmas daily celebrations...
      Monday - bring in your favorite stuffed animal
      Tuesday - Let's hibernate and read (bring in a blanket and wear p.js)
      Wednesday - Let's play some board games!
      Thursday - All Aboard....the Polar Express!

What's Going on in Our Classroom...

ALEKS Shout-Outs! 
  • Ollie completed 12 topics!

The following students are SO close to finishing their 4th-grade ALEKS pie!   Congratulations Micah!  He has moved on to the 5th-grade ALEKS pie!

Reader's Workshop:
  • The students will make sure they have a good book to enjoy over Winter Break!  They will be encouraged to keep up their reading routine at home.
    Writer's Workshop:
    • The students are looking forward to sharing their essays with you on Wednesday!  We will spend our writing time this week writing from some fun story starters.  
        Math:
        • The students will continue working with numeric patterns this week as they are introduced to input/output tables.
        Science:
        • The students will be tested over the 3 types of rocks and the rock cycle on Thursday.  They will be given the review on Monday.

        What's Happening in Room 34...

        Things You Should Know...

        • We do not yet have a head coordinator for our upcoming Holiday Party on December 21st.  If you are interested in planning a party with a couple of parents who have volunteered to assist, please let me know ASAP.

        • We will celebrate the 12 days of Christmas in the classroom until Winter Break begins with a fun activity each day!  I will have the students put a note in their planner if they need anything for the following day.
        • We are now in our final week of Support a Family and we’re asking for ANYTHING! Please send items in with your children to their classrooms. If you have any questions, please contact Melia Harris at 314-406-1114 or Ann Kleitsch at 314-749-2400 x 3004.  Thank you again for your support of our Crestwood Elementary community!

          Reader's Workshop:
          • The students will continue working with Scholastics Storyworks this week.  We will focus on reading a play as we look at the components that make up a play.  They will also do a fun activity called Grammar Cops in Storyworks as they help each other identify grammar errors in a given text.
            Writer's Workshop:
            • The students will be focusing on revising their persuasive essay this week.  Our daily mini-lessons this week will include ways to use more specific and persuasive language with a convincing tone and how to include research to support a thesis. The students are doing a wonderful job with their essays!
                Math:
                • We will review long division on Monday and the students will be tested on Tuesday.  They have been working hard practicing the steps to division and any extra support at home is greatly appreciated!  Fact practice will also help the students become more confident as they master the steps.
                Science:
                • The students will be creating the 3 types of rocks this week using Starbursts as they learn and demonstrate the process of each type of rock. We will also be working with the Rock Cycle as they learn about weathering, erosion, and deposition.

                Things You Should Know...


                • There are still several slots that need to be filled on The Giving Tree, so please check it out (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4DA8A62EA7FC1-giving1). The Giving Tree allows you to sign up for specific gifts that our families would like or need. Thank you for your generosity! 
                • We are now in week 4 and we’re asking for Paper Products- paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, wet wipes, etc.  Please send items in with your children to their classrooms. If you have any questions, please contact Melia Harris at 314-406-1114 or Ann Kleitsch at 314-749-2400 x 3004.  Thank you again for your support of our Crestwood Elementary community!

                  Reader's Workshop:
                  • This week, the students will learn how to close read while they read and annotate the nonfiction piece, "Saving America's Wolves" from Scholastic Storyworks.
                    Writer's Workshop:
                    • The students will be focusing on revising their persuasive essay this week.  Our daily mini-lessons this week will include how to write a creative lead to hook a reader, more advanced transition words and phrases to link ideas, ways to use more specific and persuasive language with a convincing tone and how to include research to support a thesis. The students are doing a wonderful job with their essays!
                        Math:
                        • The students will continue to practice the steps to long-division this week.  They will be working with up to 4 digit dividends divided by a 1 digit divisor. The students will have homework to assist with their progress.  Please help guide your child, as needed.
                        Science:
                        • The students will be learning about the 3 types of rocks this week as they research and present with a partner through Sketchnoting. They will creatively display the facts they learn through rich visual notes.  The students will share their Sketchnotes with the class.  Keep an eye out for it on Seesaw!
