What's Happening in Room 34...

Things To Know...

  • Several students received a notice from Crestwood's library for books that have not been returned.  Please ask your child if they have outstanding books and return them to school as soon as possible.  Thank you!
  • You are invited to visit our classroom on Tuesday between 9:30 and 10:15 to view our awesome taco trucks!
  • Your child will be bringing home several writing pieces on Thursday!  Please keep an eye out for them because they are keepers!

Dates to Remember... 

            Monday: Owl movie and owl pellet dissection!
           Tuesday: Taco Truck Exhibit
           Wednesday: Taco truck lunch 
           Thursday: End of Year Assembly at 1:30             
           Friday:  1/2 Day!  LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!
                  
What's Going on in Our Classroom...

Reader's Workshop:
  • The students will be finishing up their book clubs this week!  They are doing a GREAT job with group discussions!
    Writer's Workshop:
    • The students will be creating a Summer Bucket List!  Keep an eye out for it!  They will contain realistic, fun activities that you and your child can turn to for times when summer begins to get boring.... (can that actually happen?!)
        Math:
        • The students will be introduced to a few 5th grade math concepts!
        Science:
        • The students will dissect owl pellets this week as we continue to learn about the food chain.

        What's Happening in Room 34...

        Things To Know...

        • Our field trip to the Gempp conservation area is on Wednesday.  If you child has not returned the permissions slip, please do so as soon as possible.  
          • Reminders for this field trip:
            • Bring a sack lunch and drink
            • Wear tennis shoes and long socks are recommended
            • Apply sunscreen and bug repellent before arriving to school
            • The students can wear a hat and bring a drawstring bag
        • Crestwood's Field Day is on Friday!  Students may wear their swimsuit (girls under clothes and boys may wear their trunks).  Students should bring a change of clothes, shoe/socks and a towel to change into after morning water games.
        • To end our Taco Truck design activity, we will have a taco truck visit Crestwood for the 4th grade students to purchase lunch and view the truck on Wednesday, May 22nd.  A menu will be coming home on Monday.  We ask that each student send in his/her order and money by Friday, so we can give the taco truck the order ahead of time.

        What's Going on in Our Classroom...

        Aleks Completion!
                  Congratulations to Samiah and Stella for finishing their 4th grade pie!

        Reader's Workshop:
        • We will continue reading I Survived the Revolutionary War as a class read aloud as we learn many key events of the war.  The students will practice summarizing each chapter in a few sentences.  We will also be participating in a Virtual Field Trip through Scholastic!
        • The students will continue working with their book club this week!  They are loving their books!  Ask your child to tell you about their book club book! The students are responsible for reading and completing a writing task to help lead their book discussions.
          Writer's Workshop:
          • The students will publish their poems this week, and we will create a class anthology of poems on food!
              Math:
              • The students will design their taco truck this week and figure out the area and perimeter of each item inside the truck.
              Science:
              • We are going to the Claire Gempp Conservation Area on  Wednesday.  Please sign and return the permission slip.
              • The students will dissect owl pellets this week as we continue to learn about the food chain.

              What's Happening in Room 34...

              Things To Know...


              • The BOGO Scholastic Book Fair is this week at Crestwood!  The students will be previewing on Monday and will have opportunities throughout the week to purchase books!  It's a GREAT opportunity to stock up on some great reads for the summer!
              • We are taking a walking field trip to the Sappington House on Friday.  The historic house is right across the street from school. The students will learn about the history of Thomas Sappington.  "He" will also make a visit to our classroom on Wednesday to preview our visit!
              • We will participate in Global Day of Design tomorrow!  The students will be using what they have learned about specialized structures to design and create an animal to live in a given creative environment. 
              • The students will be bringing home their math books this week and next.  They are GREAT resources for the summer.   The books are FULL of work pages and lessons.  I highly encourage you to browse through them and make good use of them.
                • The students can share what they did over the weekend with their peers on our new Padlet! Your child can access it by going to padlet.com/kbranding1/weekend . The students are familiar with Padlet because we use it in the classroom regularly, so they should have no problem sharing a picture or just a few words.  I look forward to sharing it during our class meeting tomorrow.

                What's Going on in Our Classroom...

                Alek's Topic Leaders Last Week!
                • Nathan completed 12 topics!
                • Grace and Cullen completed 11 topics!

                To participate in our pizza lunch, the students need to have their pie finished by Friday!
                Congratulations to Mila for finishing her 4th grade pie!

                Reader's Workshop:
                • We will continue reading the I Survived the Revolutionary War as a class read aloud as we learn many key events of the war.  The students will practice summarizing, in a few sentences, each chapter.  We will also be participating in a Virtual Field Trip through Scholastic!
                • The students chose their book for our last book club, and we will begin reading on Monday.  The groups will decide on their reading pages and each student will choose their writing task from a menu for each reading assignment to complete. The writing tasks will help hold them accountable for completing their reading and also help lead their book club discussions. 
                  Writer's Workshop:
                  • We will finish up our poetry writing this week and begin publishing near the end of the week.
                      Math:
                      • We reviewed telling time on an analog clock this past week. I encouraged the students to practice telling time on an analog clock to become more confident.
                      • The students will begin our year-end project.  They will be designing a taco truck!  After learning about food trucks, the students will be responsible for creating a name and logo for their taco truck.  From there, the students will decide on their menu and a "specialty taco".  Then the students will design and create a three-dimensional truck.  We will be inviting you in to see these fabulous designs!
                      Science:
                      • We hope the weather cooperates this week so we can get outside to begin our Nature Unleashed observations as we study 3 of Missouri's ecosystems, the forest, the prairie and the pond.   
                      • We will be going on a field trip to the Claire Gempp Conservation Area on May 15th.  Please sign and return the permission slip.
