What's Happening in Room 34....

Things You Should Know...


  • Intake conferences are scheduled for September 5th and 13th.  This will be a time for you and I meet so I can learn more about your child.  It will be a time for us to begin building a partnership and set goals for your child this school year.  If you have not yet signed up for a conference time, please use this LINK.
  • To help prepare for conferences, please complete thiquestionnaire. 
  • If you have not yet signed up for Seesaw, click on this LINK, find your child's name, create an account and you will begin seeing your child's work!
  • Your child will be decorating his/her writer's notebook on Friday He/she can bring in special pictures, scrapbook paper, fun tape, special quotes, etc. to personalize it.  I will have some supplies here at school.
  • If you have not yet sent in $8 to cover the cost of the Scholastic Storyworks magazine we will be using in school this year, please do so this week.  Thank you!

    What's Going on in Our Classroom...
    Reader's Workshop:
    • The students will continue to review the characteristics of the different genres.
    • They will be writing an at home reading plan this week and sharing it with you.  This reading plan will include a reading goal and a what their at home reading will look like.
    • All the students have a chapter book and are practicing their reading stamina in the classroom daily.  They should also be reading at least 20 minutes each evening at home.
      Writer's Workshop:
      • We will review the components of a well-developed paragraph as we write several paragraphs this week that contain a topic sentence, detail sentences, and a closing sentence.  After reading The Best Part of Me, the students will write a paragraph explaining the best part of themselves.  We will create a class book with everyone's writing to add to our class library.
          Math:
          • The students have been doing a wonderful job practicing their facts in the classroom!  They will be introduced to the 4's on Monday.  The students will have time to practice independently and with partners to help prepare for their test on Friday.  They should be practicing at home, as well.
          • We will continue to work with place value this week.  The students will be ordering large numbers and rounding to specific place values.  They will continue to learn new and fun math games this week that will be used in our upcoming math stations.  
            Science:
            • We will begin our Earth Science Unit this week as the students learn about the layers of the earth and Pangaea.
