What's Happening in Room 30.......

Important Announcements:

  • MAP testing will start next week!
  • A letter was sent home on Friday requesting letters of encouragement for your child.  Please return them by Friday.  Sh.....please keep it a secret.
  • Our testing dates are as follows: 
            - Wednesday, April 19th 1:00 - 3:00 (ELA)
            - Thursday, April 20th 9:00 - 11:00 (ELA)
            - Monday, April 24th 1:00 - 3:00 (Math)
            - Wednesday, April 26th 9:00 - 11:00 (Math)

We ask that the students on these dates to please be at school on time and refrain from doctor appointments.
  • The students will have an audio section on the MAP test and require the students to use earphones or earbuds.  If your child would prefer to use his/her own, we ask that he/she make sure to have them at school as soon as possible.  We will have a couple of practice sessions this week and next and the earbuds or earphones will be required.

Dates to Remember:
Thursday:  Dads and Donuts at 8:00
Friday: No School!

What's Happening in Our Room....

Reading Workshop:
  • The students will read two articles in Storyworks "The Amazing History of American Television" and "TV Transformations". They will annotate the article with their reading partner as they prepare to answer questions about the text.
  • If your child participates in Reading Plus, please help him/her remember to complete his/her weekly assignments.  These reading assignments can be completed at home and count towards at-home reading minutes!
Writing Workshop:
  • The students will continue to write different styles of poetry this week on our class anthology topic, "Get Active".  We will be writing a poem from the point of view of an object, a simile poem and a Haiku.
  • We will spend time this week reviewing capitalization and comma rules.
Math:
  • We will be wrapping up our customary measurement unit this week after covering weight and time.  Ask your child about "brain dumping" and The Land of Gallon.  These are two strategies we practiced last week to help with converting measurement.
  • The students have until May 11th to complete their 4th grade ALEKS pie to participate in our ALEKS Celebration!  We currently have 9 participants!!
Science:
  • The students will be working with the properties of matter this week.  They will practice measuring matter's mass using a grams.
Social Studies:
  • The students will continue to learn about Missouri statehood.
