What's Happening in Our Room....

Reading Workshop:
  • The students will work with reading and comparing "paired texts" this week.  The articles are two different genres on the same topic.  They will read and annotate the poem and nonfiction article as they answer questions about both.
  • Every Friday, the students will work with an online reading program called readingtheory.com.  This program adapts to your child's reading level and presents them with skill-building exercises.   Your child is welcome to work on the program at home and it will count towards his/her weekly reading minutes.
Writing Workshop:
  • The students have been having a great time annotating and "digging into" two different poems last week.  They have chosen "sports" as our topic for our class poetry anthology.  We have decided to broaden the topic to "Get Active" for all students to truly appreciate.  This week, the students will write a descriptive and a repeated line poem.  Their poetry juices will be working this week!
Math:
  • Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
  • We will wrap up our perimeter and area unit early this week and begin working with customary measurement.
  • The students have until May 11th to complete their 4th grade ALEKS pie to participate in our ALEKS Celebration!  We currently have 9 participants!!
Science:
  • We will begin our unit on Matter this week.  In a couple of week, we will begin our Nature Unleashed Unit that is provided by the Missouri Conservation Department.  A lot of our activities will take place outside.  I ask that the students bring in an old beach or bath towel to keep in their cubbies for our outdoor lessons.
Social Studies:
  • The students will continue to learn about Missouri statehood.
