Important Announcements:
- Crestwood's Fun Fair is this Saturday! It is a day of fun, games and yummy food at Crestwood while enjoying time with family and friends and raising money for our school. A flyer and several e-mails have been sent home regarding the Fair. Please consider volunteering an hour or so on Saturday to help make this another successful event! I hope to see you!
- Classroom leadership roles will be assigned early this week, and the students will be trained this week as they begin to participate in making sure our classroom runs smoothly.
- The students will be assigned to complete at least 3 topics on ALEKS at home this week. If your child needs assistance with a topic, please help him/her by using examples similar to the problems, but please allow your child to work out the assigned problems on his/her own. ALEKS progresses the students according to what they accomplish, and if your child has not truly mastered a topic, he/she will be presented with material that may be too challenging.

What's Happening in Our Room....
Reading Workshop:
Reading Workshop:
- The students are enjoying Tiger Rising as they discuss and think more deeply about the text. They will be writing questions about their reading to promote thinking this week to share with their classmates.
- The students will closely read a fiction and nonfiction piece this week and compare the two short readings by answering questions.
Writing Workshop:
- This week, the students will be adding more description to their personal narrative and add "show not tell" to promote the reader to better visualize the story. (An example of show not tell: TELL: I was sad. SHOW: A tear dropped on my cheek as my smile quickly disappeared).
- The students will also work with a partner to identify compound sentences.
Math:
- We will begin working with multiplication this week as the students review fact families, learn the properties of multiplication and create equations from word problems.
- We are beginning a unit that requires the students to know their multiplication facts. They should be practicing them every evening. They will be tested on Tuesday and Friday this week.
Social Studies:
- We began a unit on geography last week in Social Studies. The students had fun using the online book to read and practice new vocabulary words. The students are welcomed to look through their social studies book online at home. The website and log in information is on their password sheet stapled inside of their Homework Folder.
- This week, the students will be able to identify the oceans and continents and use longitude and latitude to locate specific coordinates.
