What's Happening in Room 34.....

Important Announcements:

  • Homework this year will include viewing short videos over material taught in the classroom or introduce concepts that will be taught the following day.  The students will view the videos on edpuzzle.com .   Once the students are on the website, they have an option to log in using google.  They need to log in through google and use their Lindbergh e-mail address and 10-digit ID number for their password. If your child does not have access to a computer at home, please drop me an e-mail so I can make arrangements to have him/her complete it in the morning.
  • The students now have their login information stapled inside of their Homework Folder.  If your child ever needs help logging into any site we use in the classroom, he/she can refer to the sheet in the Homework Folder.
  • The students will be introduced to our classroom leadership roles this week.  We will review the responsibilities of each, and the students will choose two roles they would like to apply for.  An application will be completed at the end of the week.  Leadership roles will begin next week! (I can't wait!!)
  • The students will be reintroduced to MyON this week!  MyON is an online personalized library. The students have their own personal library of books at their reading and inerest level on MyON.   We are encouraging the students to take advantage of reading the material in school and at home.  A note will be coming home later this week to further explain the program.

What's Happening in Our Room....

Reading Workshop:
  • We will continue to read Tiger Rising this week as a class.  The students are practicing reading "intensely" as listen and discuss the book with their peers. We are closely studying 2 main characters' actions and words to better understand their meaning.
  • I am still working to help the students find a "good fit book" for each of them to read at school and at home.  If you notice your child is reading a book that seems too challenging for him/her, please drop me an e-mail.  It is so important for the students to be reading books at their reading level, so they can grow as a reader.
    Writing Workshop:
    • The students are carefully studying well written personal narratives, Fireflies and Owl Moon.  These two mentor texts will help the students as they begin writing a personal narrative.
    • We will continue working with the 4 types of sentences this week (declarative, imperative, exclamatory and interrogative).  After playing 4 Corners with the sentence types last week, they are becoming sentence experts!
      Math:
      • This week the students will be working with addition and subtraction as they review the properties of addition, identify patterns in addition and estimate sums and differences by rounding
      • Students who did not pass the 4's multiplication text on Friday will retake it on Wednesday.  The students will be tested over  5's on Friday!  They should be practicing their facts every evening.
        Science:
        • We will continue talking about plate tectonics this week as the students look more closely at volcanoes and complete a fun activity on Mysteryscience.com.
        • The students will be given a review over the layers of the Earth, Pangaea and plate tectonics on Tuesday and will be tested over the material on Thursday.  They will have their notes and review to help prepare for the test.
