What's Happening in Room 34......

Important Announcements:

  • The students brought home their login information for MyON.  MyON is an online library of books that are personalized to your child's reading level.  The students are encouraged to use MyON at home.
  • A colorful rubberband ball that was made by my son when he was in 4th grade disappeared off of my desk this past week.  It has sentimental value to me, and I am hoping it returns this week.  I asked the students to please help keep an eye out for it in the classroom, as well.
Dates to Remember:
Wednesday:  Math test
Thursday: Mom's and Muffins at 8:00 a.m.
                     Facts test
Friday:  No School

What's Happening in Our Room....
Reading Workshop:
  • We will continue to read Tiger Rising this week as the students practice discussing the characters with their reading partners.  They will also practice predicting and writing questions to promote thinking while reading.
    Writing Workshop:
    • The students will begin drafting their personal narrative this week after taking time to write creative leads to hook their readers last week.  They will focus on including inner thinking, action, description and dialogue to their writing this week.  I can't wait to see what they come up with!
        Math:
        • The students will be working with their math partners as they solve addition and subtraction word problems on Monday.
        • They will review for a test on Tuesday and will be tested over addition and subtraction on Wednesday.
        • The students will continue to work on ALEKS in the classroom as we begin math stations this week.
          Science:
          • The students did a WONDERFUL job on their 1st science test last week!  Thank you for your support at home!
          • The students are working with their 1st STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) project.  On Friday, they were asked to create a 3-story structure that will be able to withstand an earthquake. The students spent Friday researching and designing a structure. The student will use cardboard, marshmallows, and toothpicks to create the structure with their group on Monday. The structures will be tested on Monday and Tuesday.
