What's Happening in Room 34...

Things To Know...

  • Recently, during a class meeting, the students requested a change in our Weekly Reflections (yellow form). They wanted something more simple to complete, so I had a few students brainstorm and create a new form.  We began using it last week.  The new form includes a weekly reading log and a place to record their assigned ALEKS topics (if they are assigned for the week). It should be signed and returned every Monday.
  • Just a reminder....  all students are responsible for reading at least 5 times a week for 30 minutes at home.
Dates to Remember...

           Monday: Spring Pictures
                         Counseling Lesson
           Wednesday:  Buddies and Early Release

What's Going on in Our Classroom...

Alek's Topic Leaders Last Week!
  • Stella completed 27 topics!
  • Esmat completed 18 topics!
  • Angela completed 13 topics!
Grace and Lola completed their 4th-grade pie! Woohoo!
We are now at 9 students who have moved on to 5th grade!

Reader's Workshop:
  • We will continue to tie reading and social studies together as we learn about the American Revolution. This week, we will continue to focus on the events that led to the Revolutionary War. Our main focus while reading about the Boston Massacre and the Tea Party, will be finding the main idea and writing a summary of a given paragraph. The students will participate in a fun activity to experience what it felt like to be taxed as a colonist.
  • The students are having fun putting themselves in the shoes of a colonist and developing strong opinions on the topic.
    Writer's Workshop:
    • We will begin our poetry unit this week!  The students will take a few days to study different poems and learn about the key elements of poetry.  Near the end of the week, the students will decide on a topic for our class poetry anthology!
        Math:
        • We will review customary measurement this week and begin working with area and perimeter.
        Science:
        • We will continue working with matter this week as the students complete a STEAM challenge on density.  The groups will be asked to create a boat using tin foil that can hold cargo and float.
