What's Happening in Room 34...

Things You Should Know...

  • The school-wide Halloween parade will begin at 1:30 and our classroom party will follow the parade at 2:00 on Wednesday.  All students are welcome to bring their costumes to school to change into for the parade and party.  Please refer to the costume guidelines for Thursday.
  • The students have earned a Character Celebration for showing good character!  They have chosen to have a movie celebration.  We will pick the movie this week and celebrate on Friday!
  • After the students get settled in the morning, each group is assigned an activity to do with their group partners.  The activities include building with Legos, Boggle, fact practice and working on typingclub.com.  Typingclub.com is an online typing program that teaches students how to type. Your child can also work on the typing lessons at home.

    ALEKS Shout-Outs!
    • Theo completed 19 topics!
    • Makaylee completed 18 topics!
    • Nathan completed 9 topics!
Keep up for hard work and determination!  I can't wait to see who our ALEKS topic leaders will be this week!

Crestwood's word of the week last week was Responsibility.  The students set goals for themselves to be more responsible at home and at school.  We will be sharing some this week through Seesaw!

    Reader's Workshop:
    • The students chose their mystery book club book and will begin meeting with their book club members this week to begin reading.  We will focus this week on setting up book club expectations and practicing peer discussions using our class read-aloud book, Restart.
      Writer's Workshop:
      • We will begin our essay writing unit this week!  As a class, the students will write a 5-paragraph essay this week as they learn the structure and components of a well-written essay.  This will prepare them to write a persuasive essay soon!  Be ready for some pretty convincing essays that may be directed towards you:)
      • We will take time this week to review sentence fragments and run-on sentences.  They will be able to identify them and correct them in their writing.
          Math:
          • The students will continue learning how to multiply 2 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers using the area model, the distributive property and the standard algorithm method. Be ready for another lesson taught to you by your child this week!
          • Many students will begin working with 12's this week as they master their multiplication facts.  If your child needs to be re-assessed on the 8's, 9's or 3's, 6's, 5's or 7's, or 11's they will retake the test on Wednesday.
          Social Studies:
          • We will take a break from social studies this week to do a STEM project.  The students will collaborate with their peers to design and construct a catapult.  We will be looking for the catapult that can toss a candy corn the furthest.
          • The students will design their maps of the Midwest region this week. The students will be the "expert" and teach the class about a specific Midwest topic.
