ALEKS Shout-Outs!
- A correction from last week! Chandler worked on ALEKS after I sent out our class newsletter! Chandler completed 18 topics last week! Woot Hoot!
- Micah completed 11 topics!
- Ollie completed 7 topics!
- Cullen and Claire completed 6 topics!
Keep up for hard work and determination! I can't wait to see who our ALEKS topic leaders will be this week!
Reader's Workshop:
- The students will begin Mystery Book Clubs soon! To get ready, the students will choose a good fit book that interests them, learn what student-led book clubs look like in 4th grade and begin preparing to read and discuss our books.
Writer's Workshop:
- We will begin our essay writing unit this week! As a class, the students will write a 5-paragraph essay this week as they learn the structure and components of a well-written essay. This will prepare them to write a persuasive essay soon! Be ready for some pretty convincing essays that may be directed towards you:)
Math:
- The students will review and prepare for their test on Monday and will be tested on Tuesday over multiplication. This week, the students will begin learning how to multiply 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers! They are rocking the strategies and steps to multiplying! If your child is struggling or becoming frustrated, most likely it is due to lack of fact fluency. The students are continuing to practice their facts in the classroom and should be at home, as well.
- During math stations, the students are working on ALEKS, playing a review game on facts and multiples, and playing Multiplication War and Guess the Factor card games to work on mastering their facts.
- Many students will begin working with 12's this week as they master their multiplication facts. If your child needs to be re-assessed on the 8's, 9's or 3's, 6's, 5's or 7's, or 11's they will retake the test on Wednesday.
Social Studies:
- The students will design their maps of the Midwest region this week. The students will be the "expert" and teach the class about a specific Midwest topic.
