What's Happening in Room 34...

Things You Should Know...

  • Hopefully, you have had the chance to take a look at the Every Kid in a Park pamphlet that came home from our field trip on Thursday.  If not, you will find it in your child's Take Home Folder.  It is a great opportunity to enjoy our National Parks this year!
  • Our character word of the week is "Character".  Character is how we react when "things get tough".  The students will be brainstorming, reflecting and participating in activities this week focusing on being the best version of ourselves; even when things get tough.
  • You are invited to our Writing Celebration on Friday between 9:10 and 9:45.  Stop by to read some fantastic personal narratives!  An invitation will be coming home on Monday.
  • The students will be assigned to complete at least 3 topics on ALEKS at home this week.  They will be given the recording paper on Monday to keep track of the topics.  The paper will be due on Friday.
  • Looking for new ways to practice multiplication facts?  Click on the "FUN MATH SITES" above and scroll through to find multiplication games.

What's Going on in Our Classroom...

    ALEKS Shout-Outs!
    • Makaylee completed 9 topics on ALEKS last week!
    • Cullen completed 7 topics on ALEKS last week!
    • Kolton completed 6 topics on ALEKS last week!
Keep up for hard work and determination!  I can't wait to see who our ALEKS topic leaders will be this week!

    Reader's Workshop:
    • Your child should show you his/her completed Reading Log (the back of the Week in Review yellow sheet) for the week.  Please review, sign and return on Monday.
    • As we continue reading Tiger Rising, we will focus on character change.  We will take a close look at the main characters and talk about how they are changing in the book.  We will also be reading a couple picture books, Chrysanthemum, Enemy Pie, and Recess Queen whose main character changes from the beginning of the story to the end.
      Writer's Workshop:
      • The students will edit and finish revising their personal narrative this week to prepare for our Writing Celebration on Friday.  They will learn how to create a catchy title for their story and create a cover to showcase their writing!
          Math:
          • The students will review for their math test on Monday and test on Tuesday.  We will continue working with multiplication in our next unit as the students learn different strategies to multiply multi-digit numbers.  Be ready to learn a new strategy from your child soon!
          • During math stations, the students are working on ALEKS, reviewing place value, addition and subtraction and mastering their facts.
          • Many students will begin working with 5's this week as they master their multiplication facts.  If your child needs to be re-assessed on the 8's, 9's or 3's, or 6's, they will retake the test on Wednesday.
          Social Studies:
          • As the students work with a partner to create a map highlighting the West region, we will begin learning about the Southwest region.  I am looking forward to seeing their creativity with the map project!
