What's Happening in Room 34...

Things You Should Know...

  • The students had a great experience on our field trip as we visited Ulysses Grant's home. The students came home with a national parks pass on Friday! All 4th graders can get their family into any national park in the United States for free.  Hopefully this summer you will have the opportunity to use it!  Click on this link to learn more.
  • We will continue to collect money for the Heines this week through Penny Wars!  Students are encouraged to bring in any loose change and pennies.  Any denomination other than a penny can be used to count against other grade levels!  Let the Penny War begin!!  An adult fundraiser event is being planned for the Heines for June 29th.  If you are interested in learning more, please let me know and I can pass along the information.
  • The students will be given the Midwest region test tomorrow.  They are doing a wonderful job preparing for the tests!  They will have another test on Thursday and again next Monday.
  • This week, I will be sending home the students' consumable math books and science book.  The math books contain a lot of pages that can be used for review this summer!
  • I have asked the students to check their rooms for any books that are from our classroom library.  If you can help your child out and have the books returned as soon as possible, I would greatly appreciate it!

    Reader's Workshop:
    • The students are using readingworks.org to read a daily nonfiction article.  This website is a great resource for reading at home!

      • We will focus on different types of poetry and begin our poetry this week!
      • The students want to learn how to write in cursive so we will begin this week!  All the students know how to write their name in cursive and they have been practicing reading cursive.

          • The students who have not mastered their multiplication facts will be working on QuickTables during morning arrival this week.
            Science:
            • The students will dissect owl pellets this week.  Keep an eye out for some great pictures!
