What's Happening in Room 34........

Things You Should Know....

  • A note will coming home later this week requesting personal notes from you for your child during M.A.P. testing.  Each morning of testing, I will leave the note of encouragement from you on your child's desk. The students LOVE receiving them!  I often see the notes in their desks, on their clipboards or just sitting on their desks well after MAP testing.  This just shows what a quick note can mean to a child.  This is a surprise for the students, so please keep it a secret and return your notes in the envelope provided.
  • Below are the dates our class is scheduled to take the M.A.P. test.  Please try to refrain from scheduling doctor and dentist appointments on these days.
Monday, April 23rd - ELA                          Monday, April 30th - Math
Wednesday, April 25th - ELA                     Wednesday, May 2nd - Math
               Thursday, April 26th - ELA

What's Going on in Our Classroom....

    Reader's Workshop:
    • The students will begin reading their chosen book club book on Monday.  They will be leading their book club discussions through their reading and tasks they select as a group.  You may see the books coming home to read assigned pages and to prepare for their book club meetings.
      Writer's Workshop:
      • After critiquing several 4th grade writing samples, the students are writing from a given writing prompt. They will continue to write them on Monday before sharing and reviewing.
      • On Friday, students will have a test over the vocabulary words they received last Monday. The words came from our Word Wall, and the students have worked with the words throughout the school year.  They will be responsible for spelling, defining and using the words in a sentence.
          Math:
          • We will begin working with area and perimeter this week.  They will be reviewing fractions and multiplication during math stations.
            Social Studies
            •  The students will complete a mini web quest research project in class this week as they learn about the three branches of government.
