What's Happening in Room 34........

Things You Should Know....

  • Scholastic book orders are due on Wednesday.  If you are interested in ordering, you can order through our blog by following the Scholastic Book Order tab or sending the order to school.
  • The students will be assigned to complete at least 3 topics on their ALEKS pie this week.  I am looking forward to having more students complete their 4th grade pie!  Several are getting really close!
  • The students will be assigned to work on multiplication Quicktables periodically for homework.  Quicktables are on ALEKS and the students know how to find them.  Several students still need to master their facts.  Please assist with practicing at home as much as possible.
  • The students have been assigned their new leadership role for our classroom.  Ask your child what responsibilities they have to help our classroom run smoothly.
  • If you have not yet sent in the field trip permission slip for our upcoming field trip to a women's SLU basketball game on January 31st, please do so as soon as possible.  The fee for the trip is $5 to cover the cost of the bus.  It will be a GREAT time!

What's Going on in Our Classroom....
Reader's Workshop:
  • The students are learning about text structures in our nonfiction unit.  They are learning how to identify what structure an author may use in his/her writing.  This will help the students prepare to write their informational writing piece.
    Writer's Workshop:
    • The students will pick their topic for their informational writing piece early this week and begin brainstorming subtopics for the topic before they begin their research.
        Math:
        • We will continue to work with fractions this week as the students identify equivalent fractions, learn how to simplify and compare and order them.
        • The students should continue to practice their facts at home.  Having them mastered will greatly help them while working with fractions.
          Science:
          • The students will work through the Scientific Method again this week as they investigate which surface allows a ping pong ball to bounce the highest.
