What's Happening in Our Room....

Reading Workshop:
  • The students are finishing up with their Book Clubs this week.  They did a wonderful job preparing for discussion and discussing their book with very little help from me.  The students will do a culminating activity as a group for the next two weeks. Each student will be responsible for his/her own part in the activity while working together as a group.
Writing Workshop:
  • The students have been busy researching and writing their informational text.  The students are learning about the 5 main text structures (description, sequence, compare/contrast, cause/effect and problem/solution) that informational (non-fiction) authors often use to present the material.  The students are using these structures to write about their subtopics.
Math:
  • Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
  • The students are learning about fractions this week as we dive into chapter 8.  The main focus this week is being able to identify and create equivalent fractions.
Science:
  • The students will begin working with circuits this week as they learn what makes a circuit work while problem solving with a science partner.
Social Studies:
  • The students will do some follow-up Lewis and Clark activities and discussions this week.
