What's Happening in Our Room....
Reading Workshop:
- This past week, the students chose a book they would like to read with a book club. This week, the students will begin reading and discussing their chosen book with their book club. The students will learn how to listen and discuss a book well with their peers. They will also learn how to jot down ideas while reading to share and promote discussion with their book club peers.
- The students will be leading their book clubs and deciding on reading assignments and tasks that need to be completed during the week. Your child may have assigned pages to read in the evening which will be counted towards their daily reading.
Writing Workshop:
- The students are encouraged to bring in devices to research their chosen topic for our latest writing piece, Informational Writing. If your child does not have a device to bring in, we have classroom computers available.
- Instead of spelling words this week, the students will be focusing on our words from our vocabulary wall. Words will be given on Monday and the test will be on January 20th. The students will be responsible for using them correctly in a sentence.
Math:
- As we continue reviewing multiplication and division, the students will be working with patterns, and input/output tables in chapter 7.
- Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
- The students will be assigned a Spiral Review on Monday and it will be due on Friday. This will be their morning work this week, so they will have class time to work on it.
Science:
- Last week, we started an Electricity Unit. We will continue to work with static electricity as we conduct an investigation this week.
Social Studies:
- The students are learning about famous Missourians.
