Things You Should Know....
- This week, we are collecting cleaning products for Adopt a Family! One or several items are GREATLY appreciated for our Crestwood families! If you would like to sign up to donate specific items on the Giving Tree, please use this link!
- Reviewing multiplication facts daily will GREATLY help your child with math. I am seeing students struggle and becoming frustrated with division. Confidence can remain high when students have mastered their facts!

What's Going on in Our Classroom....
Reader's Workshop:
Reader's Workshop:
- The students began reading their chapter book for Book Clubs today. They will be meeting approximately every other day to discuss their book. The students are learning how to lead their discussions and decide on reading pages and written task on their own. They did a WONDERFUL job today working with their groups. You will see the book coming home to be read during their 20 minutes of "at home reading".
Writer's Workshop:
- The students will decide on their topic for their persuasive essay this week. Today we spent time brainstorming ideas. Feel free to talk about topics with your child to help him/her make a decision.
- The students will be working with a new set of vocabulary words from Flocabulary.com this week.
Math:
- The students have been working on dividing numbers up to 4 digit by 1 digit. We will continue to work with the steps this week. They will review on Thursday and will be tested over the material on Friday.
- The students are assigned to complete at least 3 topics on ALEKS at home by Friday.
Social Studies:
- We will be wrapping up our chapter on the different regions of the United States and the Native Americans who once thrived on the natural resources. We are focusing on the resources each region offered to help create the artifacts.

Working on Our Lego Missouri
The students are creating Missouri with Legos. They are researching major rivers, land forms, landmarks, cities, and the bordering states to include on their Lego state.

- The students were given a new set of spelling words today. They will write them in their planner tomorrow, and the spelling test will be next Tuesday, 11/21.
- This week we are collecting personal care items (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, baby items, etc) for Adopt a Family! Please send in one or several personal care items for our Crestwood families!

What's Going on in Our Classroom....
Reader's Workshop:
Reader's Workshop:
- The students will choose their book for the upcoming book clubs. Our book club genre is mystery. We will spend several days learning how to talk about a book as the students learn to lead a book club discussion with their peers.
Writer's Workshop:
- We are beginning our Essay Unit this week. The students will learn the components of an essay and practice writing a class essay together titled, "Ice Cream Is the Best Dessert". The students will begin brainstorming ideas for a persuasive essay thesis that they will begin to write after Thanksgiving Break.
Math:
- The students began dividing with zeros and estimating using compatible numbers last week. They will begin long division this week! They will learn long division using the same method you are most likely familiar with, but they will be introduced to "short division" next week. Wait to you see how easy it is!
Science:
- We are finishing up our Rocks and Minerals Unit this week as the students complete an erosion STEM project on Mystery Science. The students will create a way to eliminate or lessen erosion of a "mountain". Keep an eye out for pictures of the project!

What's Happening in Room 34......
Things You Should Know....
- We had a wonderful field trip to Cahokia Mounds on Friday! Please check out our pictures from the day.
- The students will have ALEKS homework this week! They will need to complete at least 3 topics on their pie by Friday. They will be given the form to complete as they finished the topics on Monday.
- A Crestwood fundraiser for Texas Roadhouse gift cards was sent home on Thursday. If you are interested in participating, all order forms are due on Friday, November 17th. The gift cards make great holiday gifts! We are also having a Dine to Donate at Texas Roadhouse on Monday!
- We will be celebrating Veteran's Day on Friday with a school-wide assembly at 2:00. If you have a Veteran in your family, we would love to have him/her join us to honor his/her service. A form was sent home on Friday to complete and return.

What's Going on in Our Classroom....
Reader's Workshop:
Reader's Workshop:
- The students will continue to discuss our class read aloud, Wonder, to prepare them for book clubs that will begin next week. The students will be given a choice of 5 books to read in a book club this week. They will be assigned pages to read and tasks to complete in their reading notebook. You may see these books coming home to read starting next week.
- The students will read short articles about the three types of rocks and use a strategy called FUN (find, underline and number) to accurately answer questions from their reading.
Writer's Workshop:
- The students will write a 4th Grade Memory about our field trip on Friday. They will construct a well-developed paragraph as they reflect on their favorite parts of the day.
- We will begin discussing the components of an essay as the students begin brainstorming ideas for their persuasive thesis statement.
Math:
- The students will review multiplication on Monday and will be tested over the material on Tuesday. They will begin division this week as they practice dividing with a basic fact and zeros. Mastering their multiplication facts is a vital component in mastering multiplication and division.
- The students will be assigned to complete at least 3 topics on ALEKS at home!
Science:
- The students will review rocks and minerals on Monday and Tuesday and will be tested over the material on Wednesday. We are working on learning good study habits, and I am strongly encouraging students to study more than one evening for a test at home. We have been talking about different study strategies and habits to help them be successful on tests.
