What's Happening in Our Room....

Reading Workshop:
  • While reading nonfiction this week, the students will learn how to identify the  structure an author uses by identifying key words in the text and the main idea.
  • Every Friday, the students will work with an online reading program called readingtheory.com.  This program adapts to your child's reading level and presents them with skill-building exercises.   Your child is welcome to work on the program at home and it will count towards his/her weekly reading minutes.
Writing Workshop:
  • The students will learn the difference between formal and informal language.  They will be able to explain the difference, know when each is appropriate to use and identify examples of each. We will do some fun activities and we study the differences.  The students will practice writing formally and informally as they write to me through             e-mail.
Math:
  • Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
  • The students will continue to work with decimals this week as they learn how to order decimals and place them on a number line.
  • The students will complete a review on Wednesday and be tested over decimals on Thursday.
Science:
  • The students will explore the power of magnets through hands-on activities from mysteryscience.com.
Social Studies:

  • The students will continue to learn about Missouri statehood.
