What's Happening in Our Room....

Reading Workshop:
  • We are continuing to study non-fiction this week while focusing on finding the main idea of non-fiction material.  The students will find supporting details in non-fiction articles to support the main idea.
  • Every Friday, the students will work with an online reading program called readingtheory.com.  This program adapts to your child's reading level and presents them with skill-building exercises.   Your child is welcome to work on the program at home and it will count towards his/her weekly reading minutes.
Writing Workshop:
  • This week, the students will reflect on their behavior and academics during the 3rd quarter.  They will write a 3rd quarter reflection to share with you.  The students will address an envelope and mail it to you at the end of the week.  Look to receive it by the beginning of next week!
  • Our mentor sentence this week comes from Wonder, our current read aloud book.  It will focus on several grammar rules: I or me, capitalization of pronouns, proper use of commas and possessive nouns.
Math:
  • Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
  • We will begin learning about decimals this week and the relationship between fractions and decimals.
  • The students will need to master 3 topics in ALEKS this week for homework.  This assignment needs to be turned in on Friday.
Science:
  • The students will work with Snap Circuits and online circuit games as we wrap up our Electricity Unit.
Social Studies:
  • The students are learning about early pioneer life.
