What's Happening in Our Room....

Reading Workshop:
  • This week, the students will be working with 2 examples of paired texts.  Paired texts are two different genres of writing but on the same topic.  They will compare a non-fiction piece to a story as they read from Scholastic Storyworks.
  • Every Friday, the students will work with an online reading program called readingtheory.com.  This program adapts to your child's reading level and presents them with skill-building exercises.  A flyer explaining the program will come home early this week.  Your child is welcome to work on the program at home and it will count towards his/her weekly reading minutes.
Writing Workshop:
  • The students are finishing up their slides for their Informational Writing piece.  This week, they will also write a paragraph about "The Best Part of Me" after reading the book, The Best Part of Me.  We will turn the students writing into a class book.
Math:
  • Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
  • The students will learn how to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers this week.  They will be tested over chapter 9 next week.
  • The students will be assigned to complete at least 3 ALEKS topics this week at home.
Science:
  • The students will continue working with electricity as they explore fun circuit games online and create working circuits using our new Snap Circuits that were purchased for us by PTO!  Thank you, PTO!!
  • The students will be given a review over electricity next week and be tested over the material at the end of next week.
Social Studies:
  • The students are learning about early pioneer life.
