What's Happening in Room 30.....
Important Announcements:
- Please join us to celebrate our latest writing piece, Informational Writing! Feel free to stop by any time between 11:30 and 12:15 on Friday to enjoy some amazing slideshows.
- This week is Reading Celebration Week! We are celebrating reading each day this week, so please look below to see the fun things we have planned this week!
- An envelope addressed to you will be coming home later this week regarding Spring Conferences. Please read and respond appropriately.

What's Happening in Our Room....
Reading Workshop:
- We are diving into non-fiction this week! The students will explore many different non-fiction books as they look at the different text structures and features the authors use in their writing.
- Every Friday, the students will work with an online reading program called readingtheory.com. This program adapts to your child's reading level and presents them with skill-building exercises. Your child is welcome to work on the program at home and it will count towards his/her weekly reading minutes.
Writing Workshop:
- The are learning about point of view this week as we read Memoirs of a Hamster. Using a scenario, the students will practice writing in 1st person and 3rd person.
Math:
- Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
- The students will continue to practice subtracting mixed numbers before moving onto multiplying fractions this week. We will review chapter 9 on Wednesday and Thursday and be tested over the material on Friday.
Science:
- The students began reviewing for their science test that will be given on Thursday. They were given review cards today. Using their notes, they need to write the answers on the back for tomorrow. These review cards will be used to study and prepare for the test.
Social Studies:
- The students are learning about early pioneer life.

What's Happening in Room 30..........
Important Announcements:
- The students brought home a note regarding the 4th grade Growth and Development lesson. Please take a few minutes to read. If you have any questions, you can contact Nurse Eva at school. The lessons will be held on Thursday, March 30th.
- The students are putting the finishing touches on their Informational Writing pieces! They are amazing! Please join us on Friday, March 3rd for our Informational Writing Celebration from 11:30-12:15.

What's Happening in Our Room....
Reading Workshop:
- This week, the students will be working with 2 examples of paired texts. Paired texts are two different genres of writing but on the same topic. They will compare a non-fiction piece to a story as they read from Scholastic Storyworks.
- Every Friday, the students will work with an online reading program called readingtheory.com. This program adapts to your child's reading level and presents them with skill-building exercises. A flyer explaining the program will come home early this week. Your child is welcome to work on the program at home and it will count towards his/her weekly reading minutes.
Writing Workshop:
- The students are finishing up their slides for their Informational Writing piece. This week, they will also write a paragraph about "The Best Part of Me" after reading the book, The Best Part of Me. We will turn the students writing into a class book.
Math:
- Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
- The students will learn how to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers this week. They will be tested over chapter 9 next week.
- The students will be assigned to complete at least 3 ALEKS topics this week at home.
Science:
- The students will continue working with electricity as they explore fun circuit games online and create working circuits using our new Snap Circuits that were purchased for us by PTO! Thank you, PTO!!
- The students will be given a review over electricity next week and be tested over the material at the end of next week.
Social Studies:
- The students are learning about early pioneer life.

What's Happening in Room 30...
Important Announcements:
- The students can bring in their decorated Valentine's Day box or bag on Monday or Tuesday. The students should bring in their Valentine's on Tuesday to distribute to their classmates. Just a reminder, the students will need to have one for each student in the classroom. We will have our Valentine's Day party on Tuesday at 2:00.

What's Happening in Our Room....
Reading Workshop:
- The students are working with their book clubs on the group project. They will present the finished project this week. I am happy to see that many students are choosing to continue reading a book in a "book club". Many students have picked a book with a classmate and are meeting to discuss it as they read the book.
- The students will practice making inferences (a conclusion based on clues and reasoning) this week as we read our read aloud book, Ghost Dog Secrets.
Writing Workshop:
- The students are developing their information text chapters on google slides this week by including different text features. Some of the text features students are choosing to use are, pictures, videos, maps, fun fact text boxes, glossaries, Venn diagrams, timelines and picture diagrams. The students are having fun creating their slides.
Math:
- Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
- The students will review chapter 8 on Monday and will be tested on Tuesday. We will continue to work with fractions in chapter 9.
- The students will work on a Spiral Review for morning work this week. Any unfinished work will be assigned for homework. It will be due on Friday.
Science:
- The students will conduct an insulator/conductor investigation this week and write a conclusion to their findings.
Social Studies:
- The students are learning about early pioneer life.

What's Happening in Room 30....
Important Announcements:
- Mid-Quarter Reports will be coming home on Monday! Please review, sign and return as soon as possible.
- Several students are struggling with remembering to return their Week In Review form on Mondays. This form includes their weekly reading and reflections for the week. Please review, sign and help them remember to return each Monday. Not returning this form, is counted as a missing assignment.
- We still have one reading opportunity for you to visit our classroom and read a Book of the Month to the students. If you are interested in this opportunity, please sign up.

What's Happening in Our Room....
Reading Workshop:
- This week, the students will be working with their book clubs to complete a group project. Each member has a specific task to complete and present to the class. The book club members will complete the tasks and present them on a poster board to share with the class.
- The tasks include:
- Decide on the book's theme and write a paragraph describing the theme while including text evidence to support the theme
- A character study of a main character
- Write a summary of the book
- Create a time line of the main events of the story
Writing Workshop:
- After the students complete their research paragraphs, they will begin creating a presentation on google slides to share their information. The students will include several different text features in their slideshow to enhance their presentation.
Math:
- Please continue to encourage your child to practice facts using flashcards, online games or Quicktables on ALEKS.
- This week, the students will learn how to use 1/2 as a benchmark to compare and order fractions. They will also learn the "shoe lace" method to compare and order fractions. The students will be tested over chapter 8 next week.
Science:
- The students will do a conductor and insulator investigation this week as we continue to learn about circuits.
Social Studies:
- The students will do some follow-up Lewis and Clark activities and discussions this week.
