What's Happening in Room 30..........
Important Announcements:
- We will begin MAP testing on Wednesday afternoon and also test on Thursday and Friday morning this week. The students will be testing in ELA (English Language Arts).
- PLEASE send in your encouragement notes as soon as possible. I place one on your child's desk each morning on testing days. The students bring these notes to the testing room to read when they feel they need a little encouragement.
- If you have not contributed to our MAP snack mix, you still have time! Those of you who have...THANK YOU!!! The students are going to have a yummy treat each day of testing:)
- Two permission slips were sent home last week for our upcoming field trips to GEMPP Conservation Area and the Historical Daniel Boone Home. Please return the forms as soon as possible.

Reading Workshop:
Writer's Workshop:
- Last week, we spent time talking about ways to discuss a book. The students learned and practiced being an active listener while discussing a book with their peers. This week, the students will begin a Book Club and be assigned a book to read together. Reading will be the only homework assigned during MAP testing.
Writer's Workshop:
- The students will finish up their poems this week, revise and edit before publishing for our class poetry anthology. Each child will be given a class book of poems to keep!
Math:
- We will spend time reviewing math concepts this week while working with our math partners, playing games and working independently to help us prepare for MAP testing. The students will also work in math stations this week and have classroom opportunity to work on completing 4th grade ALEKS. We currently have 8 students participating in the Pizza Party for completing ALEKS! Your child has until May 12th!!
Science
- The students have enjoyed spending time outside as they study and observe nature in our school ecosystem. We will end our unit with a field trip to GEMPP Missouri Conservation Area on May 17th.

What's Happening in Room 30.........
Important Announcements:
- We have one more week until we begin MAP testing. Please send in the encouragement notes for your child by the end of this week so they can be ready and received on our 1st day of testing, Wednesday, April 27th (envelope went home last week ).
- We would LOVE to have snack contributions for our MAP snack mix. Please send in a contribution by Monday, April 25th (note went home last week).
- Mid-Quarter Reports will be coming home on Monday. Please review, sign and return as soon as possible.
- We have two field trips coming up in May! You will be receiving the permission slips this week.

Reading Workshop:
- The students will practice listening to audio text and answering questions related to the text. They will also spend time preparing for book clubs that we will begin next week.
- The students are writing wonderful poetry! I will share a few poems on our blog early this week. The students will continue to learn about different types of figurative language this week and continue writing poems around out class anthology topic - food.
- We be reviewing the correct usage of commas and the rules of capitalizing titles.
Math:
- We will be continuing with our Geometry Unit this week as the students learn about the different types of triangles and quadrilaterals.
- We will review for the unit test on Thursday and the students will be tested on Friday this week.
Science

What's Happening in Room 30.....
Important Announcements:
- Shhh..... it's a surprise! An envelope addressed to "The Parents of..." will be coming home today. Inside you will find information about our upcoming MAP test and also a request asking you to write letters of encouragement to your child during MAP testing. Please return your notes by April 21st in the envelope provided. Your child will LOVE receiving personal notes from you every day of testing. PLEASE help keep it a surprise:)
- Also coming home today is a letter requesting snacks for our MAP Snack Mix. The students LOVE having a special treat after working hard on the MAP each day.
- Please help your child remember to bring in an old bath or beach towel to use during outdoor learning.
- MAP testing is right around the corner and our MAP testing schedule is listed below. Please make every effort to avoid scheduling Dr. appointments during our testing windows.

Reading Workshop:
- The students will practice listening to audio text and answer questions related to the text.
- I have encouraged the students to increase their independent reading time to 30 minutes at home. Some of the students included this as a reading goal!
- The students have chosen "food" as our topic for the class poetry anthology. They have created fun poems around the topic. This week, the students will create a "repeated line" and a simile poem. They will focus on including different types of figurative language in their poetry. I will post a few poems later this week on our blog.
Math:
- The students will be tested over customary measurement on Tuesday. We will begin our geometry unit on Wednesday.
Science
- The students are enjoying the Nature Unleashed Unit. We spent time outside last week between cooler temperatures. We will hopefully get more time outside this week as we continue to study the ecosystems. We will end out unit with a field trip to GEMPP Missouri Conservation Area on May 17th.

- I am setting an ALEKS challenge for the students! Those students who complete the 4th grade ALEKS pie by May 12th (UPDATED DATE), will get to participate in a pizza party! We already have 3 participants and several who are very close.
- SPRING IS HERE and I LOVE moving the classroom outside!! We will be spending time outside during science, and I plan for us to read outside when the weather is nice during independent reading time. Please help your child remember to bring in an old beach/bath towel that can be used outside.

Reading Workshop:
- The students will closely read and annotate a fable this week and use strategies to correctly answer questions about it.
- The students will begin book clubs next week, and we will spend time this week learning how to productively discuss a book in a small group.
- This week, we will continue to analyze poems to identify different techniques poets use in their writing. The students will brainstorm and vote on the topic for our class poetry anthology and begin writing poems.
Math:
- The students will continue working with customary measurement and learn how to convert time.
Science
- We will begin our Missouri Conversation Unit, Nature Unleashed, this week! The students will learn about the different Ecosystems found in Missouri over the next several weeks and spend time outside exploring nature. We will end out unit with a field trip to GEMPP Missouri Conservation Area on May 17th.
