What's Happening in Room 30....

Important Announcements:
  • Our classroom leadership roles will be discussed this week.  We will talk about what it means to be a leader.  The students will think of specific characteristics they possess and apply them to specific leadership roles for our classroom.
  • The students should be practicing their multiplication facts each evening.  Each student has the set of flashcards on the facts they are currently learning, and it takes just a few minutes to go over them each evening.  They are also welcome to use the blog link "Fun Math Sites" to play games and take practice timed tests.
Word of the Week: envision  (taken from our reading lesson)  If you envision the story you are reading, it can help you with your comprehension.

Dates to Remember:

Wednesday:  Picture Day!
                       Chapter 2 math test
Friday: Cultural Day and Night -- Hope to see you there!
              Custodian's Day

What's Happening in Our Room....

Reading Workshop:
  • As we read The Tiger Rising, the students will envision the story and learn to walk in the character's shoes to help them comprehend the story.
  • We will be reading a story from Scholastic Storyworks and learn how to use inferences to answer follow-up questions.
Writer's Workshop:
  • The students will be working on scene 3, 4 and 5 this week of their realistic fiction story.  They will learn how to add "inner thinking" to their story to include more detail.  They will also replace "said" in their dialogue to include more creative and descriptive words.
Math:
  • The students will continue to be tested on their multiplication facts using Rocket Math.
  • The students will review chapter 2 on Tuesday and will be tested on Wednesday over addition and subtraction.
  • We will begin chapter 3, "Multiplication and Division", on Thursday.
