Dates to Remember...
- The students are finishing up their research and writing this week as they begin to decide what text features to include in their presentation.
- The students will also be working with a mentor sentence this week. Our sentence includes "dad" as a proper noun, the correct use of I and me, and show not tell.

- The students will be introduced to decimals this week as we begin our next unit. They will learn to read decimals through hundredths, make the connection of money and decimals and understand the relationship between fractions and decimals.
Science:
- The students will complete their 2nd investigation this week using the Scientific Method.
- They will also be tested over the terms and the understanding of the Scientific Method on Thursday. The students will be given a review on Monday, create study cards during morning work and have time to study with a partner throughout the week. They should also study at home using their cards, review sheet and science notes.
Things You Should Know...
- The students were given their spelling list last Thursday and can be found in their Take Home folder. They will have several opportunities to work with their words during morning work and during WIN time this week at school, but they should also be practicing them at home. The spelling test will be on Friday.

Things You Should Know...
- The students should be creating a Valentine's box at home for their Valentine's Day party on Thursday. If you have any extra cereal boxes or smaller boxes that you could donate for those who do not have access to one, please send it to school with your child. I have also supplied the students with construction paper if they need it to help create the box.
- Our Valentine's Day party is on Thursday at 2:00. Thank you, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Kutrip for planning it!
- The students will be given their spelling list this week. Depending on when they are given, will depend on the test date. I will keep you posted. They will have their spelling in their Take Home folder and should be brought home and to school every day. This will allow them to practice at home and at school.

Things You Should Know...
- Our rescheduled parent-teacher conference is this Thursday! Please confirm your scheduled time here.
- To help prepare for the parent-teacher conference, please take a few minutes to complete this questionnaire.
- The students will be bringing home a note tomorrow regarding Valentine's Day boxes that they will create and bring in for our Valentine exchange. Please make sure to take a look at it. On the back, you will find a list of all the students in our class for the exchange. Once again, we ask that the cards contain no candy. They may include a small trinket if you and your child wish.
- Your child is collecting spelling words in his/her notebook. These words are words your child does not know how to spell in their everyday writing. Feel free to jot down words for your child to add to his/her list. After they spend about 2 weeks collecting words, I will share more information on how they will be used.
Our Week:
- The students have committed to their topic for their informational writing piece! They came up with their subtopics, and we will begin researching this week! We will first take time learning how to paraphrase our research while learning about plagiarism.
Math:
- The students will continue to work with fractions this week. This week, we are working with comparison word problems. The students will also be introduced to mixed numbers (a whole number with a fraction: 5 3/4). They will learn how to create a model of a mixed number and create an improper fraction from a mixed number (23/4) using a model to support the process. Video Example
Social Studies:
- The students will present their projects on Wednesday.
Science:
- We will begin our next unit on The Scientific Method this week. The students will participate in a few fun investigations as they learn the process.
