What's Happening in Room 34....

Things You Should Know....

  • The end of the 3rd quarter will be on Friday, and Spring Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 15th.  An e-mail was sent home last week regarding conferences.  If I requested a conference, please add your name to the form provided in the e-mail. Please let me know if you have any questions.
  • We will be having a Writing Celebration on Thursday this week!  The students will share their informational writing piece through google slides.  You are welcome to stop in any time after 9:00 a.m.  The celebration will end at 9:40.  An invitation will be coming home tomorrow.  We hope you can make it!  These writing pieces are something you will not want to miss!
  • The students are doing a wonderful job working on ALEKS at home!  We have 9 students who have completed their 4th-grade pie!!  My goal is to have EVERY student complete his/her pie by MAP testing at the end of April.  Your child has been introduced to a lot of the topics on ALEKS and should have plenty to work on.  Spending 15 - 30 minutes on ALEKS in the evening is a great way to review and strengthen your child's math skills.

What's Going on in Our Classroom....

    Reader's Workshop:
    • The students will be working with infographics this week.  Infographics use design elements to illustrate essential facts rather than pages of text.  They display a lot of information in an organized format.
      Writer's Workshop:
      • The students will learn the difference between informal and formal language and when each is appropriate to use. The students will use formal and informal language as they practice through e-mails.
          Math:
          • We will be wrapping up decimals this week, and the students will review on Thursday for their test on Friday.  They are expected to be able to identify, read, add, compare and order decimals and solve word problems involving decimals.
          • The students will be assigned to complete at least 3 ALEKS topics at home this week.  A form will be given to them on Monday to record as they complete each topic.
            Social Studies:
            • The students will read and discuss the differences between Loyalists and Patriots.  They will use what they know to decide if they would side with the Loyalists or Patriots prior to the American Revolution.
