What's Happening in Room 30.....

Important Announcements:

  • The students worked SO HARD this past week on the MAP test!  I am so proud of every single one of them.  As I watched the students test, I noticed they were highlighting passages and key words, using the elimination tool, rereading passages and typing notes on the online "sticky notes" to prove their answers.  Wow!  They pulled together all the different strategies we have been working on all year and worked so diligently.
  • The students will take the MAP math section this week on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.
  • We will begin practicing cursive writing within the next week.  All the students know how to write their first and last name in cursive and now we will take more time to practice writing and reading cursive.
  • If you have not done so already, please send in the 2 permission slips this week for our upcoming field trips. We will be going to the Daniel Boone Historic Home on May 11th!

What's Happening in Our Room....
Reading Workshop:
  • The students will begin book clubs this week.  They will be assigned daily reading and writing/discussion tasks to prepare themselves to discuss their books with their peers.

Writer's Workshop:
  • The students will finish up their poems this week, revise and edit before publishing for our class poetry anthology.  Each child will be given a class book of poems to keep!
Math:
  • During the school year, I noticed that the students are struggling with telling time. Even though it is not a 4th grade standard, we will be working on telling time for the next couple of weeks.  Please encourage your child to use an analog clock to practice telling time.  We will use different terms like "a quarter after, 1/2 past, a quarter til, 15 minutes until.." to practice and help them gain better understanding with telling time.
  •  The students will also work in math stations this week and have classroom opportunity to work on completing 4th grade ALEKS.  We currently have 8 students participating in the Pizza Party for completing ALEKS!  Your child has until May 12th!!
Science
  • The students have enjoyed spending time outside as they study and observe nature in our school ecosystem.  We will end our unit with a field trip to GEMPP Missouri Conservation Area on May 17th.
