- We had a WONDERFUL start to the year! We are well organized and ready to dive into 4th grade this week.
- We created a mission statement for our classroom this week. The students brainstormed a list of ideas as we answered a few questions about our goals for this year. We will be reading our Mission Statement every day as part of our morning routine.
- Our Mission Statement:
- Curriculum Night is this week on Thursday at 6:30. We are also offering another session at 7:15 for those who have more than one child in grades 3-5. It is an opportunity to find out what we have planned this year, hear about our classroom procedures and expectations and find out how we can bridge your child's education between school and home.
Word of the Week: inconspicuous (The students were taught how to eat their morning snack inconspicuously in the classroom.)
Dates to Remember:

What's Happening in Our Room....
Reading Workshop:- The students will be taught our procedures for checking out "good fit books" from our classroom library. They will find a chapter book that they will read during independent reading time in school and at home. Your child is welcome to bring in a book they are currently reading at home to read during independent reading time.
- The students will practice reading with stamina this week as they gradually increase their independent reading time.
- They will be introduced to our Reader's Workshop format and begin studying different types of genres.
- The students will generate different personal writing topics during fun brainstorming activities using their writer's notebook. They will also be writing everyday to improve their writing stamina.
- The students will set up their math notebook and begin learning about place value.
- They will have math homework this week!
Science:
- The students will practice being "scientists" as they explore unfamiliar items.
