What's Happening in Room 34....

Things You Should Know....

  • A few of our parents are busy planning the upcoming Valentine's Day party!  A flyer was sent home regarding the party last week.  The room parents are requesting that the students contribute $5 to cover the cost of the food, craft and goody bag.
  • Students will have the opportunity to give Valentine's Day cards to their classmates. A note with the guidelines will be sent home on Monday.
  • We are looking forward to our field trip to a Billikens basketball game on Wednesday!  A hotdog lunch will be provided.
  • The students are eagerly preparing our classroom for Cultural Day on Friday!  Our classroom will be representing Mexico!  As we learn fun facts about Mexico, the students are making posters and flags to help decorate our classroom.
  • Those of you who have donated dry erase markers for our classroom, THANK YOU!

What's Going on in Our Classroom....
Reader's Workshop:
  • The students are doing a wonderful job reading nonfiction material and identifying the structure the author used by thinking about the text and using keywords to help identify the structure.  We will continue to work with this during the week to help prepare the students as they write their informational piece in writing.
    Writer's Workshop:
    • The students have chosen their informational text topic and will begin researching this week.  The students are learning how to paraphrase material and use direct quotes as they take notes.
        Math:
        • The students will be introduced to improper fractions and mixed numbers this week.  They will continue to work with simplifying and determining if a fraction is less than or greater than another fraction.
        • The students should continue to practice their facts at home.  Having them mastered will greatly help them while working with fractions.
          Science:
          • The students will be introduced to the properties of matter and will conduct an investigation testing the density of different liquids.
