What's Happening in Room 30..........
Important Announcements:
- Every Friday, your child brings home his/her Week in Review. It is an overview of the week that includes reflections of what they learned, what they are proud of and a personal goal for the following week. The backside contains their reading log. Please review, sign and return on Mondays.
- Please review your child's Mid-Quarter Report, sign and return as soon as possible. Thank you!!
- We are increasing our weekly reading from 4 nights a week to 5 nights a week. Your child is responsible for reading 5 evenings at home every week for at least 20 minutes. Reading outside of school will continue to improve your child's fluency, comprehension and increase his/her vocabulary. Most importantly, it will help your child develop a love for reading. Your child should be completing his/her reading log (backside of The Week in Review) each evening.

The students have been practicing thinking while reading by writing down questions and connections while reading and also visualizing the story in their head. Th students will also learn how to retell a story in chronological order and by synthesizing (reflecting what you have read and being able to draw your own conclusion and opinions as you tell about a story)
- The students will begin publishing their personal narrative through google classroom as they edit their piece. They will be focusing on paragraphs, punctuating dialogue, sentence structure and spelling.
Math:
- The students will be tested over chapter 2 on Tuesday after reviewing on Monday. The students will have a review guide to study from on Monday evening.
- We will begin chapter 3, Understanding Multiplication and Division, on Wednesday.
Science:
- The students will conduct another investigation this week following the Scientific Method. They did an incredible job last week writing a conclusion to their investigation.

What's Happening in Room 30...........
Important Announcements:
- The students will be given their 1st list of spelling words on Monday. The list consists of three words from a list your child is collecting in their spelling notebook. Your child is adding words they have misspelled in their writing or have mispelled from the 4th grade list of words they are expected to know how to spell. Five words will be from our 4th grade content that we are currently studying, and five words will be following a specific pattern or rule. The students will be given spelling words on a Monday. They will work with these words in class and at home for two weeks and will be tested over them on a Friday. Their first spelling test will be on Thursday, September 22nd. (due to the students having the day off on Friday, September 23rd)
- The students have been working hard on our online math program, ALEKS, in class. The students will have opportunities to work on ALEKS during Math Stations in class. They will also be assigned to work on ALEKS for homeowork. Although I support parents helping their child with homework at home, I do ask that you please not assist your child with the answers to the problems on ALEKS. The program advances the students as they learn new concepts. If your child advances to a new level with support, your child will not be ready for the advancement. There is an "explain" option your child knows how to use while working with ALEKS. I ask that if your child needs extra support, help them through an example in the "explain" option instead. If you notice your child struggling with a specific area, please let me know, and I will assist them at school. Thank you for your support.
